A trip to the Adirondack Foothills would not be complete without a stop at the Steuben Memorial State Historic Site. The site is a unit of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation operated through a partnership agreement with the National Park Service at Fort Stanwix National Monument. On and off site programs for school groups and organizations as well as group tours are provided by appointment only. Admission to the site is Free. The site is partially accessible and special accommodations available with advanced notice.
Hours: Parking lot is open from Dawn to Dusk, Monday thru Friday and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm., Memorial Day to Labor Day. Program schedule is available by calling 315-338-7730.
Facilities:
The Steuben Memorial State Historic Site is located on Starr Hill Road in the Town of Steuben. It is about 2.5 miles west of Route 12/28, north of Utica, NY. Gravesite and large stone memorial for Major General Baron von Steuben ( 1730 - 1794) within the "Sacred Grove", commemorative and picturesque historic park offers replica cabin, picnic area, restrooms, panoramic view of the beautiful historic Steuben and Mohawk Valleys. Facility hosts a variety of summer programs focusing on the later life, death and commemoration of this great American hero.
